9 Weeks

9th week in Brazil. Today after school I went with a group of students and a couple of teachers to a day care center in a favela (shantytown) near our school. It's within walking distance from my school, but we took a bus for safety reasons. The little kids we met were adorable. They acted like they knew me, took me by the hand, hung on me and hugged me. We spent about an hour there drawing pictures, playing jump rope, and hanging out. They don't speak a word of English, and my Portuguese is awful right now. I brought my camera and they loved seeing themselves in the viewer. Some of them were quite aggressive and kept trying to take it from me so they could take pictures. I had to wrestle it away from them.
